2Cool enabled Mehiläinen Air Bridge project to Korea
As corona tests increased in the spring, Mehiläinen Oyj (listed company) discussed how to speed up the response process for sample givers. In Finland, the testing capacity was very high, and samples accumulated, so it could take up to 5–7 days before the reply could be delivered to the customer. Then a collaborator was found in Soul, South Korea, where they could process samples in less than 24 hours.
However, then there was the dilemma: How to deliver samples by air safely at the right temperature, so that the samples do not heat up above the permitted fridge temperature, or do not freeze?
At the beginning of the year, 2Cool had presented its products and transport method to the persons responsible for transporting the samples in Mehiläinen.
Sari Ahokas, the Responsible Pharmacist of the Mehiläinen in the Air Bridge project to Korea, contacted Mikko Aminoff, the CEO of 2Cool and asked if they could find a reliable method to deliver the valuable cargo to Korea.
“Of course, we could!” That is when the co-operation to deliver the samples to Korea with 2Cool boxes and gels began. First, the 2Cool Midi 45L boxes were used. Soon those were switched to 2Cool 140L Trolley boxes and the gel plates, that were integrated into the boxes. The switch made possible to deliver up to thousand samples in one Trolley box. When the shipment left from the Mehiläinen laboratory of the Pohjoinen Hesperia street at 2 p.m., the delivery was at the Korea cooperation laboratory at 8:00 a.m. the next morning. The results were completed at 3:00 pm and ready to be send to Finland. The whole process within 24 hours.
In the summer, the coronavirus eased, but in the autumn, the air bridge project was reopened. Now as the capacity of samples in laboratories has increased in Finland, there hasn´t been so many deliveries to Korea anymore. But during the busiest weeks, several boxes of samples were sent to the collaborative laboratory in Korea, three days a week.
Thus, 2Cool has been part of the Finnish coronavirus project to a significant extent. Enabling the safe delivery of dozens of transport boxes and tens of thousands of Coronavirus samples for analysis from a laboratory in Finland to a laboratory in Korea.
Next 2Cool wants to be involved in transporting the coronavirus vaccines, for which they have a safe solution ready to go.
